Purpose of Diffuser:
- Designed for high pressure multistage boiler feed pump
- Smoothly guide the fluid into discharge side with higher pressure
- Avoid corrosion & friction losses.
- Convert some velocity & friction losses
- A
single diffuser pump can deliver much greater head than an ordinary volute pump
Purpose of Wear Ring:
- To separate suction & delivery side
- Keep running clearance between casing & impeller
- Act as a guide to shaft
- To save the impeller from wearing
Purpose of Volute Casing:
- To convert kinetic energy of fluid into pressure energy
- Accommodates the gradual increase in quantity of fluid that builds at discharge from circumference of the impeller
